Seal for front final drive, replacing, 01V, 5 Spd. A/T AWD

Special tools and equipment

VAG 1383 Engine/transmission jack with VAG 1359/2 Plate:

Removing
- Remove front exhaust system with catalytic converter.
- Remove heat shield for selector lever cable, if installed.
- Remove center differential.
- Remove bolts (arrows) at intermediate flange for front final drive.





WARNING!
^ Slowly and carefully remove cover for front final drive/intermediate flange from transmission housing. The spur gears can otherwise fall out of the transmission.
^ Do not reinstall spur gears that have fallen to the ground. The transmission must be swapped in this case.

- Lift off cover i.e. intermediate flange for front final drive.

Notes:
^ Do not remove spur gears for front final drive. Secure spur gears so they do not fall out.
6 If the spur gears for front final drive were removed, the wheel marking must face outward (away from transmission) for re-installation.

Installing
Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following:





- Make sure centering sleeve -A- is correctly seated before installing.
- Install gasket.
- Set on cover i.e. intermediate flange for front final drive.

Note: If installing the intermediate flange to the output shaft carelessly, the sealing lips of the sealing ring can be damaged.





Tightening sequence:
^ 1. Stage: Tighten bolts -1- to -3- by hand

Note: When tightening bolts by hand, make sure the housing gap between cover and transmission housing decreases evenly around circumference.

^ 2. Stage: Tighten bolts -1- to -14- in specified sequence to tightening torque
- Check ATF level and top off.
- Install center differential.
