Driver's Side Airbag Igniter N199 and Front Passenger's Side Airbag Igniter N200 (Interior-Mounted Airbag), Remove and Install

Drivers Side Airbag Igniter N199 and Front Passengers Side Airbag Igniter N200 (normal seat, power seat, interior-mounted airbag), removing and installing

- Torque wrench V.A.G 1410







- Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 A







- Engine and transmission holder VAS 6095







- Fixture for seat repair VAS 6136







- Upholstery clip pliers V.A.G 1634

CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.

- Removal
- Disconnect the battery ground (GND) strap.
- Remove seat:
- Standard seat: Vehicles from 11.04
- Electric seat: Vehicles from 11.04
- Recaro seat from 11.04
- Mount the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136 on the engine and transmission holder VAS 6095.
- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136.
- Remove backrest panel:
- Standard seat: Vehicles from 11.04
- Electric seat: Vehicles from 11.04
- Recaro seat from 11.04
- Pry off lower fastening strips - 9 - (3x) with a screwdriver.
- Pry off side retainer strips - 1 - with a screwdriver and fold cover forward.
- Cut upholstery clips - 10 - (4x) at protective cover for side airbag - 6 -.
- Press latch - 3 - downward and disconnect electrical harness connector for side airbag - 2 -.
- Remove screw - 7 -.
- Drill out rivet - 5 -.
- Press side airbag - 4 - upward and remove it.

- Installing
Installation is reverse of removal. When doing so, note the following:
- Engage side airbag - 4 - into backrest frame.
- Press side airbag - 4 - downward until it stops.
- Place eye of Ground (GND) cable - 11 - between backrest frame and side airbag - 4 -.
- Secure ground cable - 11 - with a rivet.
- Replace screw - 7 -.
- Bolt side airbag - 4 - on with bolt - 7 -.
- Make sure that airbag cable - 13 - runs through cable guide - 14 - and is secured by clip - 12 - to backrest frame.
- Use upholstery clip pliers V.A.G 1634 to install new upholstery clips on protective cover for side airbag.
- Switch on ignition.

CAUTION: No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.

- Connect the battery ground (GND) strap.

NOTE:
- Follow safety measures after connecting battery.
- If the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) K75 shows a malfunction after assembly, DTC memory must be checked with Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 A , cleared and then rechecked.

- Tightening torque 10 Nm
- Replace after each disassembly
