Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair



Locking cable, removing and installing, 01J, CVT A/T FWD





1 - Locking cable

Removing

Note:
^ Do NOT kink locking cable.

CAUTION: Observe safety precautions with disconnecting battery.

- Disconnect Ground (GND) wire at battery.
- Remove storage compartment on drivers side.
- Remove steering column trim.
- Remove Heating Air Conditioning operating unit.
- Remove ashtray in center console.
- Remove cover for shift mechanism.
- Turn ignition key to ignition on position.
- Place selector lever in position P.
- Lift retaining clip -2- from interlock lever and pull locking cable -1- out of ignition/starter switch.
- Lift securing spring -4- for locking cable and pull locking cable support bracket -5- on shift mechanism sideways and disengage locking cable eye.





1 - Locking cable

Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Route locking cable behind instrument panel brace -arrow- without kinking.
- Turn ignition key to ignition on position.
- Insert locking cable -1- into ignition/starter switch.
- Check interlock lever -2-.
- Bring ignition/starter switch into locking position "ignition off".
- Make sure selector lever is in position "P".
- Engage locking cable eye onto pin -3- Lift securing spring -4- slightly.
- Slide locking cable support bracket -5- from the right into shift mechanism until securing spring -4- engages.
- Adjust locking cable.
- Observe safety precautions after connecting battery.
