Input Shaft, Removing and Installing



Input shaft, removing and installing, 01J, CVT A/T FWD

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Puller T40050:





Removing

Note:
- Observe rules for cleanliness when working on automatic transmission.
- General repair notes.

- Transmission removed and secured vertically to assembly stand.
- Drain ATF.





- Remove bolts -arrows-.
- Using a plastic mallet, carefully knock input shaft cover so that it loosens itself from transmission seal.





- Secure puller T40050 on transmission input shaft.
- Check puller T40050 for secure seating on transmission input shaft.
^ Securing ring of puller T40050 must be slid downward completely.

- Pull input shaft at the puller T40050 out of transmission housing -arrow-





Precautionary measures:

CAUTION:
^ Do not put down the input shaft on the projecting oil pipe -arrow- otherwise it will be damaged.

The reverse gear clutch plates must not be removed from the transmission housing.

Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal. Note the following:





- Clean sealing surfaces on transmission housing and on input shaft cover -arrow-.





- Check whether bushings -arrows- for centering the input shaft cover on transmission housing are installed and seated securely.





- Check condition of sealing ring -arrow-, replace if necessary.
^ Installation position of sealing ring: Sealing lip points toward input shaft cover.

- Install paper gasket.





- Align plates of reverse gear clutch e.g. using a straight-edge.
^ Teeth must be set exactly in line.

- Insert input shaft into transmission housing.





- Use back and forth rotating motions -arrow- on input shaft until reverse gear clutch plates have engaged. Raise input shaft slightly when doing this.
- Just before input shaft is fully in position, rotate it counter-clockwise over last few millimeters so that it engages in teeth of helical intermediate gearing.





- Tighten bolts -arrows- in diagonal pattern and in stages.
- Fill transmission with at least 4.5 to 5 ltr. of new ATF.

CAUTION: After installing transmission and before first vehicle drive, the procedure ATF flush must be performed.

Tightening torque
Input shaft cover to transmission housing 23 Nm
