Misfire Recognition, Checking

Special tools and equipment







- VAS 5051 or VAG 1551

Test sequence
- Connect VAS5051 scan tool and select control module for engine electronics using "address word" 01. Engine must be run at idle. Connecting VAS 5051/VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST)
Engine must run at idle for this.

Display on VAS 5051:







- Under -1- select diagnostic function "08 - Read measured value block".

Display on VAS 5051:







1 - Enter display group, max. entered value = 255
- Enter "014" for "display group number 014" in field -2- and confirm entry by pressing the -Q- button.

Display on VAS 5051:







- Check misfire recognition in display fields -3- to -4-.

Display Group 014:

If specified value is obtained:
- Exit function "08 - Read measured value block" by pressing <- button.

If specified value is not obtained:
- To switch display group 015, press uparrow button.

Checking misfire recognition of the individual cylinder

Display on VAS 5051:







- Check misfire recognition in display fields -1- to -4-.

Display Group 015:

- To switch to display group 016 press up arrow button.

Display on VAS 5051:







- Check misfire detection in display fields -1- and -4-.

Display Group 016:

- Exit function "08 - Read measured value block" by pressing <- button.
