Selector mechanism, removing and installing

Removing





- Loosen hose clamp 4 and pull off intake air duct as well as connector -1- from mass air flow sensor.
- Remove hose -5- from air filter housing.
- Remove complete air filter housing by removing bolts -2- and - 3 -.





- Pry off gear selector cable - A - and gate selector cable - B - using an open - ended spanner- 1 -.
1 = 13 mm open - ended spanner, commercially available





- Unbolt cable support bracket from transmission - arrows -.





- Unscrew gear shift knob - 1 -.
- Remove bolts - 2 -.
- Lift off retainer ring -3- and gaiter - 4 -.





- Lift out switch panel -1- and unplug connectors - 2 -.
- Carefully press lugs -3- forward and lift out tray - 4 -.





- Remove front securing nuts (arrows) for gear shift housing.





- Then remove the rear securing nuts (arrows) for the gear shift housing.
- Disconnect front part of exhaust system behind front exhaust pipe and remove center section with catalytic converter (2nd mechanic required).
- Remove driveshaft.
- Repair Group 39
- Remove front heat shield.
- Swing gear shift housing down and remove with selector cables.

Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following:





If bowden cables are reused, bowden cable restraint must be replaced.
- Apply a small amount of polycarbamide - grease into the ball socket of bowden cable restraint - A - and selector bowden cable restraint - B -.

Notes: The seals (arrows) outside the ball socket must be free of grease.





- Align shift housing parallel to mounting assembly.
- Press shift bowden cable onto transmission shift lever and selector bowden cable onto reversing lever (arrows).
- Install drive axle.
