Constant Velocity Joint: Service and Repair


Triple roller inner joint, disassembling and assembling

Disassembling





- Bend open tabs slightly and pry off cover.





- Mark installation position of parts 1-3.
- If the parts are not marked so they can be installed in their original positions when assembling, is possible that the joint will be noisy when driving.
- A waterproof felt tipped pen is suitable for marking.
- Take rubber ring (arrow) out of groove.

Notes: The rollers on the triple roller star must not be pressed off.





- Remove circlip.





- Open hose clamp.
- Pull joint with boot off shaft.
- Clean shaft and housing.

Notes: The rollers on the triple roller star must not be pressed off.

- Press drive axle in vice.





- Hold drive axle securely and press triple roller star off drive axle.
- Pull joint off drive axle.

Assembling
- Slide boot onto shaft.
- Slide joint onto shaft.

Assembling triple roller star
- The chamfer on the triple roller star faces toward the shaft, this is used as an assembly aid.





- Install triple roller star onto shaft as per markings and drive onto stop.
- Insert new circlip and ensure that circlip is seated correctly.
- Grease joint; Refer to Specifications.
- Slide joint over rollers and hold in position.
- Install boot.





- Install hose clip.





- Insert seal (arrow) into groove.
- Install cover and bend over tabs.
