Side Airbag, Removing And Installing
WARNING:

1 - Tab
2 - Side-airbag unit
- Removing:
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Remove seat.
- Remove height adjustment lever.
- Detach airbag connector from connector rail.
- Detach airbag cable from seat pan.
- Detach brackets from seat pan.
- Pull seat side trim in area of height adjustment lever slightly outward and flip front of seat upward.
- Remove spring trim.
- Cut through cable ties.
- Unhook seat cover from securing rail at rear item 11.
- Remove seat.
- Disassemble adjustment knob and securing handle next to side-airbag.
- Push expanding rivet through trim piece and remove trim piece.
- Unhook backrest fabric from the securing channel over a length of approx. 200 mm magnified view -D-.
- Bend open tab -1 - and detach fabric.
- Detach backrest fabric at side-airbag unit over a length of approx. 100 mm.
- Detach side airbag wiring carefully from clips.
- Loosen screw -4 - at fastener - 6 - on bottom of side-airbag unit - 2 -.
- Press side-airbag unit - 2 - downward.
- Carefully pull away side-airbag unit - 2 - outward.
- Installing
NOTE: Always replace screw - 4
- Position side-airbag unit - 2 - so locking pins - 3 - engage in holes - 7 -.
- Push side-airbag unit up as far as it will go.
- Tighten newly replaced screw - 4 - on side-airbag unit to 10 Nm (7 ft lb).
- Route airbag cable - 5 - so that it is seated correctly in the clips and routed according to illustrations.
- Remainder of installation is carried out in reverse order of removal.
- Switch ignition on.
WARNING: Make sure no one is in vehicle when connecting battery.
- Connect battery Ground (GND) strap.

- Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
5 - Airbag cable
6 - Fastener
7 - Engaging holes
NOTE:
- After connecting battery, check vehicle equipment (radio, clock electric windows) as per Owner's Manual.
- If the airbag malfunction indicator lamp (K75) signals a malfunction after repairs are completed, then DTC memory must be erased and checked again using VAG1551 scan tool.
