- Speed regulator VAG 1788/10
Requirements:
- Vehicle is stationary
- Electrical consumers switched off (radiator fan must not run during the test)
- Air conditioner switched off
- Coolant temperature at least 80 degree C, See Display group 004, Display zone 3.
Important note: Run engine till warm (preferably with test drive).
Note: If during a work step the test result "OK" is indicated immediately after a display group was selected, the test is finalized already. Proceed with the next work step.
Work step 1: check DTC memory
Test requirement:
- Engine not running; ignition switched on.
- Connect the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051, and select the vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics" from the menu. When doing this the ignition should be switched on.Connecting VAS 5051/VAG1551 Scan Tool

If a fault is stored:
- Rectify fault and erase DTC memory. Then take vehicle for a road test and check DTC memory once again to check for faults.
If no faults are stored:
- Press the <- button.
Work step 2: erase DTC memory
Test requirement:
- Engine not running; ignition switched on.
Display on VAS 5051:
- Select diagnosis function "05 - Erase DTC memory" from the menu -1-.

Work step 4: testing operation mode of oxygen sensor control
- Switch ignition off.
- Start the engine (depress clutch pedal on vehicles with manual transmission).
NOTE:
- If the engine is not started after adaptation of the throttle valve control module in diagnostic function "04 -basic setting", an entry into DTC memory may occur.
- If necessary, select the vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics" and diagnosis function "04 - Basic settings" again after starting the engine.

Display on VAS 5051:
- Check oxygen sensor status in display zones -1- and -2-.
NOTE: It may take a few minutes before the specified value in display field -2- is reached. If necessary, increase RPM.
Display Group 030:
- Only continue with the test when the displays have indicated "111" in display zone 1 and "110" in display zone 2 at least once.
Work step 5: diagnosis of ageing of oxygen sensor before catalytic converter
Test requirement:
- Engine still running at 2000 RPM.
Display on VAS 5051:
- Press the [up arrow] button four times to advance to Display group 034.
- Check the readout in display zone -4-.
NOTE: It may take a few minutes before a diagnosis result is obtained.
