Readiness Code, Function

Readiness Code
The readiness code appears as an 8-digit display in the data block 086, Display zone 1. Each digit represents a specific component of the emission control system.

During the test procedure, which has to be run to the end, the operation of each of these components is tested via On Board Diagnostic. If the component is found to be okay the corresponding digit on the 8-digit display will change from "1" to "0".

If the readiness code is generated after successfully completing the test procedure, it will therefore appear as "0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0" (Data block 086, display zone 1).

If one of the components is found to be not okay after the test procedure is completed, the fault is stored in the DTC memory.

Checking DTC memory.

The readiness code will revert back to "0 1 1 0 1 1 0 1" if:
- the DTC memory has been erased,
- or if the voltage supply to the engine control module has been cut off (e.g. connector unplugged or battery disconnected).
- a new engine control module was installed

If this happens, the readiness code has to be regenerated. Readiness Code, Generating

NOTE: During a test drive the control module runs the various emission-related tests as the vehicle is operated in different load ranges, and generates the readiness code automatically. In this case, however, if no final check is performed, there is no indication to confirm that the vehicle is fault free when handed over to the customer.
