Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve 2, Checking
Recommended special tools and equipment
- VAG1526 multimeter or VAG1715 multimeter
- VAG1594 connector test kit
- Wiring diagram
Test requirements
- Fuse for Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve -N115- OK
- Ignition switched off
- Hand brake is engaged
Front Wheel Drive (FWD) vehicles
- Remove EVAP canister cover at bottom of spare tire well (arrows).
All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles
- Disconnect exhaust system at double clamp (arrows).
- Remove right rear bracket for exhaust system.
- Disengage rear part of exhaust system on brackets.
NOTE: Exhaust system decoupling element must not be bent more than 10 degree , otherwise it may be damaged.
- Remove rear heat shield and bracket for exhaust system (arrows).
- Remove the rear nut (arrow) of cover for EVAP canister.
- Fold cover for EVAP canister down at rear edge.
Continuation for all vehicles
- Disconnect electrical harness connector (arrow).
NOTE: Depicted in illustration for a vehicle with Front Wheel Drive (FWD).
- Connect multimeter at valve for resistance measurement.
Specified value: 22 ... 26 Ohm
If specified value is not obtained:
- Replace Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve -N115-, item 10 .
- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM), Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code. Readiness Code, Generating
If specified value is obtained:
- Connect test box to control module wiring harness, connect test box for wiring test. Test Box, Connecting For Wiring Test
- Check wire between test box socket 116 + 2-pin connector terminal 2 for open circuit according to wiring diagram.
Wire resistance: max: 1.5Ohm
- Also check the wire for short circuit to B+ and Ground (GND).
Specified value: Infinite Ohm
- Check wire between 2-pin connector terminal 1 and the Fuel Pump (FP) Relay -J17- for open circuit according to wiring diagram.
Wire resistance: max: 1.5 Ohm
If no malfunctions are found in wires:
- Replace Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220-.
