Convertible Top Fabric, Installing

NOTES:
- For replacement fabric, double sided adhesive strips are applied to the fabric with a protective foil.
- Remove protective foil before adhering.
- If these adhesive strips are not available, it must be reapplied to the locations from which it was removed.
- The locations at which the convertible top fabric was glued to the frame must be re-glued using D 001 200 adhesive.
- Replacement fabric is delivered with all holes required for securing it to the convertible top frame.
- Holes required after the fact for convertible top adjustment can be poked through the fabric using a hot soldering iron and pointed soldering iron tip.

- Place convertible top fabric on frame.
- Engage convertible top fabric at front roof rail on left and right.







- Secure convertible top fabric - 2 - at front roof rail - 1 - using Phillips-head screws (arrows, 11x).
- Use a welding rod as an auxiliary pulling tool for the tensioning cable, bend a hook into one end.







- Push welding rod - 1 - from front to back through canvas sleeve.







- Hook tensioning cable - 2 - on end of welding rod - 1 -.







- Pull tensioning cable from rear to front through canvas sleeve.







- Insert tensioning cable nipple into tensioning cable eyelet.
- Bend tensioning cable eyelet closed using pliers.







- Twist tension strap in center of cover - 1 - 180 degrees as shown.







- Secure tension strap at center of cover with strap at roof link - 2 - as shown.
- Remove protective foil from from double-sided adhesive and secure fabric at main pillar.
- Make sure convertible top edge is straight and clean.







- Rivet fabric to tension strap - 1 - at left and right first.
- Secure fabric with remaining rivets.
- Cut off excess tension strap.
- Pull fabric over tensioning strut at rear and secure it using double-sided adhesive.
- Secure left and right retaining strips at tensioning strut using 7 Phillips-head screws at each.







- Stretch convertible top as shown using tensioning cables at front and rear.
- Align cover on side of frame.
- Affix bow sleeves using double-sided adhesive tape at bows - 1 - and - 2 -.
- Affix front roof rail sleeve, from fabric on rear side of front roof rail.







- Secure retaining strip - 1 - at right and left on rear side of front roof rail using 3 Phillips-head screws for each.







- Secure fabric in center as shown using two Phillips-head screws.







- Glue front side tension straps onto front roof rail at left and right.
- Coat adhesive surface - 1 - with D 001 200 and let it flash.
- Press on forcefully after setting up.







- Glue central side tension straps onto bow - 2 - at left and right.
- Coat adhesive surface - 1 - with D 001 200 and let it flash.
- Press on forcefully after setting up.
- Using a hot soldering iron, poke holes through fabric for the tensioning strut striker.







- Rivet striker using VAG 1753A pop-rivet pliers







- Connect wiring for rear window defroster at rear window.
- Affix wire - 2 - and heating coil sleeve with convertible top fabric (double-sided adhesive tape).

CAUTION:
The cable for rear window defroster must not be routed under the tension belt.
The cable must run along the edge of the tension belt.


- Press bow casings - 1 -, - 2 -... onto the appropriate bow and secure with two Phillips-head screws at each.

CAUTION: When installing retaining tracks 3 (item - 1 - in illustration) make sure to use the same thickness and number of spacers - 2 - in the same place.







- Attach retaining tracks - 3 - (item - 1 - in illustration) at main pillar together with seal.







- Place trim - 1 - on front roof rail and secure it using Phillips-head screws (arrows)
- Side bolts are located under seal - 2 -.







- Secure trim - 1 - in center from below using a Torx bolt.







- Before attaching face plate for handle - 1 -, apply one drop of super glue to each retaining pin for additional strength.
- Press face plate for handle onto rotating hinge for handle.







- Press handle - 1 - on and tighten socket-head bolt.
