O-ring for output flange/drive shaft, replacing
Special tools and equipment





^ VAG 1306 Drip tray





^ 3402 Right sealing ring installer

Removing
^ Disconnect left and right three way catalytic converters from rear exhaust system and press both three way catalytic converters apart at rear.
^ If necessary, remove rear part of exhaust system.
^ Remove heat shield for drive shaft.
^ Disconnect drive shaft from transmission flange
^ Place VAG 1306 drip tray underneath transfer case.
^ Drain transmission fluid from transfer case





^ Unbolt output flange by securing output flange against turning using a drift.
^ Pull output flange out by hand, If necessary use two tire irons.

Note: When prying out drive flange, do not damage collar at transmission housing.





^ Remove seal using appropriate screwdriver.

Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal. Also carry out the following procedures:





^ Drive O-ring in to stop using 3402 pressure piece.
^ Secure output flange with socket-head bolt.
^ Top off transmission fluid in transfer case and check.





Tightening torques
Socket-head bolt for rear drive flange 25 Nm
Heat shield for drive shaft to transmission 23 Nm
