Double seal in front final drive intermediate flange, replacing





Note: An inspection opening is provided on the left side of the intermediate flange to check for oil leaks at the double seal in the drive pinion and the double seal in the intermediate flange.

Special tools and equipment





3404 Right sealing ring installer

Removing
^ Remove transfer case
^ Remove intermediate flange for front final drive.





^ Drive double seal out in direction of transfer gear using suitable mandrel.

Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal. Also carry out the following procedures.





^ Check seal seat in transmission housing for damage; rework if necessary.
^ Slide seal onto thrust piece 3404 so that larger and most projecting outer ring (arrow) of seal faces tool.
^ Drive double seal in to stop using 3404 thrust piece.

CAUTION: The seating lips of the seat (arrow) may be damaged If the Intermediate flange Is placed onto the output shaft without proper care.
