Valve body, removing and installing

Note:
^ Always replace a soiled or faulty valve body.
^ General repair instructions.
^ Rules of cleanliness for work on automatic transmission.

Removing
^ Remove oil pan.
^ Remove oil strainer.

^ Remove securing clip for securing wiring harness connector -arrow-.

Only for transmission with hydraulic control E17

^ Disconnect connector at the Transmission Vehicle Speed Sensor -G38- -arrow-.

^ Remove securing bolts -arrows- of valve body and remove valve body with wiring harness.

Notes:
^ Only loosen the indicated bolts (arrows).
^ If other bolts are loosened, the operation of the valve body may be affected or the valve body may become separated.
^ The bolt (arrow -A-) is shorter than the other bolts. Observe allocation.

Only for transmission with hydraulic control E18/2

^ Disconnect connector -A- at the Transmission Vehicle Speed Sensor -G38- -arrow-.
^ Disconnect connector -13- at the sensor for transmission RPM -G182-.

All
^ Remove valve body from transmission while guiding wiring harness connector.

Note for transmissions with hydraulic control E17: Do not set removed valve body on sensor for transmission RPM at rear of valve body. Risk of damage.

Installing
^ Lightly coat O-ring of wiring harness connector with ATF.
^ Insert wiring harness connector into transmission housing.
^ Installation position: Flat part of rear shoulder points downward, the tabs at shoulder are horizontal.

Only for transmissions with hydraulic control E18/2

^ Route wire with connector -C- according to illustration so that the wiring is not pinched during installation of the valve body.

All

^ Place valve body in position without force so that point of detent plate -1- engages in groove -2- of selector lever slide.

^ Then tighten valve body bolts (arrows) by hand.

Notes:
On transmissions with hydraulic control E1 7, a bolt (arrow -A-) is shorter or thinner than the other bolts. Observe allocation.
On transmissions with hydraulic control E1812, the bolt (arrow -A-) is not installed and can therefore be disregarded.

^ Then tighten valve body bolts to final tightening torque from the inside out

Only for transmissions with hydraulic control E18/2

^ Pull wire with connector -13- of sensor for transmission RPM -G182- between valve body and wiring harness upward.
^ Connect connector -B- to connector -A- at wiring harness.
^ Connect connector -C- to transmission Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G38-.

Only for transmissions with hydraulic control E17

^ Connect connector (arrow) to transmission Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G38-.

All

^ Install securing clip onto the wiring harness connector (arrow).
^ Install oil strainer.
^ Install oil pan.
^ Top up ATF.

Tightening torque
Valve body to transmission housing (in sequence from inside bolts to outside bolts) 8 Nm (70 inch lbs.)
