Left drive flange, removing and installing
Special tools and equipment





^ VAG 1358A Oil siphoning unit

Removing





^ Open locking screw (arrow) of differential cover and siphon out approximately 0.5 liters of gear oil from final drive using VAG 1358A oil siphoning unit.

CAUTION: Syphoning ensures that no gear oil reaches the A TF. Otherwise malfunctions may occur In the hydraulic transmission control.

^ Remove left front wheel.
^ Remove heat shield for left drive axle.

^ Remove left drive axle.
^ Remove vehicle speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G22-.
^ Remove harness connector bracket from mounting bracket for drive flange.





^ Remove left drive flange mounting bracket (arrows).
^ Remove left drive flange.

Note: The left drive flange between body and subframe can be pulled out with the transmission installed if the mounting bracket for the drive flange is turned approximately 60°C to the right against the installation position.

Installing





^ Replace sealing ring (arrow B) in mounting bracket for left drive flange.
^ Check left drive flange for burrs and sharp edges at transmission side shaft end (at end of splines) and de-burr if necessary.
^ Insert left drive flange into transmission.
^ Check and top off transmission fluid in rear final drive of automatic transmission.
^ Remove left drive axle.
^ Install vehicle speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G22-.





Tightening torques
Mounting bracket for left drive flange at transmission 23 Nm
Heat shield to transmission 23 Nm
