Wheel bearing housing (aluminum) and control arm (all wheel drive), servicing

Note: If it should be necessary to move a vehicle whose drive axle has been removed, then before doing so install an outer joint in place of the drive axle and tighten it to 115 Nm (M14 bolt) or 1.90 Nm (M16 bolt) or else wheel bearing will be damaged.





1. Brake caliper
^ Servicing
2. Bonded rubber bushing
3. Wheel bearing housing
4. Spherical cap bolts (4x) 80 Nm plus additional 90°
^ Always replace
5. Washer
6. Self-locking nut, 96 Nm
^ Always replace after disassembly
7. Eccentric washer
8. Eccentric bolt
9. Brake disc
^ Notes for repairing
10. Hex bolt
^ Always replace after disassembly
^ Vehicle must not be raised when tightening
Tightening torques:
Bolt M14: 115 Nm plus additional 180° (1/2 -turn)
Bolt M16: 190 Nm plus additional 180° (1/2 -turn)
11. Wheel hub
12. Angular ball bearing
^ Pressing out 75 mm dia. refer to Fig. 1
^ Pressing out 82 mm dia. refer to Fig. 2
^ Pressing in 75 mm dia. refer to Fig. 5
^ Pressing in 82 mm dia. refer to Fig. 6
^ Pressing off bearing inner race refer to Fig. 3
^ Removing and installing with wheel bearing housing installed
13. Heat shield
14. Lower control arm
15. Front bonded rubber bushing for lower control arm
^ Pressing the bushing out is extremely difficult or impossible, if it is pressed in very tight. Therefore, we recommend replacing the entire control arm if a bonded rubber bushing requires replacement.
16. Rear bonded rubber bushing for lower control arm
17. Hex bolt, 55 Nm
18. Drive axle
19. Front bonded rubber bushing for upper control arm
^ New bushing does not have kidney-shaped recess
20. Backing plate
21. Socket-head bolt
^ Tightening torques:
Bolt M8 X 48: 40 Nm
Bolt M10 X 48: 70 Nm
22. Upper control arm
23. Rear bonded rubber bushing for upper control arm
^ Pressing out and pressing in
^ New bushing does not have kidney-shaped recess
24. Hex bolt M12 x 1.5 x 95
^ 70 Nm plus additional 90° turn
^ Always replace after disassembly
25. Washer
26. Self-locking nut
^ Always replace after disassembly
27. Coupling link
^ Installation position: curved part faces outward
28. Screw and washer assembly with ribbed washer
^ 70 Nm plus additional 90° turn
^ Only use this special bolt as replacement!
