Guide Link (Aluminum Wheel Bearing Housing), Removing and Installing


Guide link (aluminum wheel bearing housing), removing and installing
Removing
^ Remove hubcap, for light-alloy wheels pull off center cap (use pulling hook in vehicle tools).
^ Remove wheel.
^ Remove hex bolt -2-.





^ Remove bolts -1- for brake caliper and remove brake caliper.
^ Tighten hex bolt -2-.
^ Secure brake caliper to body.
^ Secure brake disc with a wheel bolt.

Note:
^ Do not let brake caliper hang from brake hose.

^ Unscrew nut from joint bolt of guide link
Counter-hold joint bolt e.g. using 4 mm hex socket insert.

Note:
^ For safety reasons, put collar nut back on joint bolt of guide link with about 4 turns, so that it is flush.
^ Be sure that both lever arms are parallel to each other during greatest applied pressure, adjust if necessary.





^ Unscrew nut from joint bolt of guide link, then press off joint bolt.
Be careful not to damage CV boot in the process!





^ Remove hex bolt -1-.
Be careful not to damage the surface of the brake lines and the underbody guard!
^ Lower subframe in back, if necessary.
^ Unscrew hex bolts -2- and -3-.
^ Remove guide link.

Installing
^ Bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent The bolted connections on the suspension links should therefore only be tightened when the vehicle is standing on the ground.
^ Replace all bolts and nuts.





^ Tighten nut on joint bolt to 125 Nm.
^ Tights n to 90 Nm plus additional 90° turn.
^ Tighten -item 2- to 110 Nm plus additional 90° turn.
^ Tighten hex bolt -3-. Note different versions
^ Mount brake disc, screw on brake caliper, and tighten to 190 Nm (M 14 x 1.5 x 38).
