Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair

Steering lock housing, removing and installing
Removing

WARNING:
^ Before removing steering wheel, wheels must be positioned in the straight-ahead position.
^ Observe safety precautions for working on airbags,
^ If these procedures are not observed, the airbag system may not function properly during vehicle operation!

^ Remove airbag control module.
^ Remove steering wheel.
^ Remove steering column switch
^ For vehicles with automatic transmission, disengage locking cable.





^ Drill out snap-off screws -1- or chisel out using appropriate chisel.
Lock cylinder, removing and installing

Installing
^ Install new snap-off screws.
^ Tighten snap-off screw until head breaks off
^ For vehicles with automatic transmission, engage locking cable.
^ Perform a function test of locking cable.
^ Install steering column switch
^ Install steering wheel.
^ Install airbag control module.
