Side Air Bag: Service and Repair




Rear Side Airbag, Disabling


WARNING!
Observe all safety precautions when working on airbags
.
The Deactivating or Reactivating procedure should only be done at the customer's written and signed request.


NOTE: The rear side airbags can only be disabled or enabled together. It is not possible to disable or enable the side airbags individually.


- Code control module as if vehicle has NO rear side airbag.
- Remove seat bench
- Disconnect battery

The harness connectors are located at the left and right sides of the vehicle by the "C-pillar"







- Press catches -2- and disconnect connector -1- in direction of arrow.
- Secure the loose harness connectors with cable ties.
- Install rear seat bench.
- Reconnect battery


WARNING!
There should be no one inside the vehicle when the battery is connected



When deactivation is complete:







- Affix appropriate adhesive language labels from label kit for deactivated side airbags (see table) to right and left inner door frames as outlined in procedure.







CAUTION!
Part numbers are for reference only. Always check with your Parts Dept. for the latest parts in formation.



- Fill out registration card and mail in. Place sheet 3 of the registration card in the owner information packet for the customer.
- Fax copies of Repair Order and completed and signed customer request form to Audi Product Support at: (800) 839-5499. Also retain a copy for your records.

Rear Side Airbag, Enabling


WARNING!
Observe all safety precautions when working on airbags
.


- Disconnect battery
- Remove seat bench


NOTE: The rear side airbags can only be disabled or enabled together. It is not possible to disable or enable the side airbags individually.


The harness connectors are located at the left and right sides of the vehicle by the "C-pillar"
- Cut cable ties for harness connectors.







- Connect harness connectors -1- for side airbags.
- Connect harness connectors -1- in cushion cut-out of rear seat bench.
- Install rear seat bench.
- Reconnect battery.


WARNING!
There should be nobody inside the vehicle when the battery is connected.



- Change coding of airbag control module to the code for rear side airbags installed.

When activation is complete:







- Remove adhesive language labels from right and left inner door frames.
- Remove any residual adhesive from door frame using cleaning solvent.
- Fill out registration card and mail in. Remove sheet 3 of the registration card from the owner information packet for the customer.
- Fax copies of Repair Order and completed and signed customer request form to Audi Product Support at: (800) 839-5499. Also retain a copy for your records.

Sticker for disabled rear side airbag, applying







- Place sticker for deactivated side airbag -1- on left and right at door frame -2- of rear doors (arrow).
- If other countries require more stickers, secure these above the sticker shown in illustration.
