Head-level Airbag In Avant, Removing And Installing (from Calendar Week 36.02)

WARNING: Observe safety precautions for working on airbags and head-level airbags.







1 - Head-level airbag
- Removing
- Note radio code (for vehicles equipped with coded anti-theft radio / radio navigation system), determine if necessary.
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap/cable and cover negative battery post.
- Remove D-pillar trim







- Remove top B-pillar trim.
- Remove top A-pillar trim
- Remove roof frame trim panel.
- Disconnect harness connector - 6 - for head-level airbag Fig: 2.
- Remove screws - 2 -.
- Remove screws - 4 - (2x) Fig: 1.
- Remove bracket - 3 - (2x) from clip at A-pillar.
- Disengage igniter - 5 - at roof frame Fig: 1.
- Remove head-level airbag - 1 - from vehicle.







WARNING: Always follow head-level airbag installation sequence.

- Installing
- Remove head-level airbag - 1 - from transport container and secure head-level airbag - 1 - in the following sequence.
- Engage igniter - 5 - at roof frame Fig: 1.
- Insert brackets - 3 -.
- Tighten screws - 2 - (6x), beginning at front.
- Screw in screws - 4 - (2x) Fig: 1.
- Rest of installation is reverse order of removal
- Switch on ignition.







WARNING: No person may be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect battery.

2 - Screws (6x)
- Tightening torque: 3.5 Nm
- Self-locking
- Always replace
- Always clean threaded holes for screws (e.g. using a thread cutter)
- For loose (threaded) inserts, tighten inserts using pliers.
3 - Brackets (2x)







4 - Screws (2x).
- Tightening torque: 3.5 Nm
- Self-locking
- Always replace
- Always clean threaded holes for screws (e.g. using a thread cutter)
- For loose (threaded) inserts, tighten inserts using pliers.
5 - Igniter
6 - Bracket for igniter
7 - Head-level airbag harness connector

- Disengage airbag connector - 7 - from igniter - 5 - before removing screws - 4 -
- Screws - 4 - (2x).
- Tightening torque: 3.5 Nm
- Disengage igniter - 5 - with bracket - 6 - at roof frame.

- Press catches - A - and disconnect connector in direction of arrow.

NOTE:
- After connecting battery, vehicle options (radio, clock, electric window regulator) must be checked according to repair manual and/or user manual.
- If the airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K75- signals a malfunction, DTC memory must be erased and then checked again using the VAG 1551 scan tool.
