Shift mechanism, removing and installing
Removing
Note: Remove gear shift knob together with gear shift cover and cover of center console.
- Lift cover of center console upward -arrows- and off.
- Release connection piece -1- in direction of arrow and pull gear shift knob together with gear shift cover upward to remove.
- First lift cover -1- up in direction of arrow -A- and pull out in direction of arrow -B-.
- Unscrew bolts -arrows C- and then remove ashtray -2- from center console.
- Lift damping washer -1- and noise insulation -2- upward and out.
- Unscrew noise insulation for gear shift housing -arrows-.
- Unscrew securing nuts -arrows- for gear shift housing.
- Unscrew heat shield for drive shaft from Torsion differential housing arrows-.
- Detach exhaust system from clamp(s) -1- onward.
- Unscrew drive shaft -2- from transmission and secure at side with wire. Drive shaft, removing and installing.
- Remove heat shield -3- above exhaust system -arrows-.
- Re-insert speed nut which was previously removed -arrow- and attach drive shaft to it with a wire.
- Remove gearshift linkage -arrow A-.
- Unscrew hex socket head bolt of push rod -arrow B-.
- Swivel gear shift housing with selector rod and push rod down and remove.
Installing
Install in reverse order.
- Push on gearshift linkage until bolt is located in counterbore of selector shaft.
- Then screw selector rod firmly in place (arrow -A-).
- Screw push rod securely to transmission (arrow -B-).
- Install heat shield -3- above exhaust system -arrows-.
- Screw drive shaft -2- to transmission.
Drive shaft, removing and installing.
- Secure clamp(s) -1-.
- Secure heat shield for drive shaft to Torsion differential housing -arrows-.
- Adjusting shift mechanism.
- Position gear shift knob together with gear shift cover on gear shift and turn connection piece -1- in direction of arrow as far as it will go.
Tightening torques
