Shift mechanism, adjusting

Note: The following points are essential to ensure proper adjustment:
^ Moving parts of shift mechanism and transmission elements are in perfect condition
^ Shift mechanism moves freely
^ Transmission, clutch and shift mechanism are in perfect condition.
^ Transmission in neutral.

Removing

Note: Remove gear shift knob together with gear shift cover and cover of center console.





- Lift cover of center console upward -arrows- and off.





- Release connection piece -1- in direction of arrow and pull gear shift knob together with gear shift cover upward to remove.





- First lift cover -1- up in direction of arrow -A- and pull out in direction of arrow -B-.
- Unscrew bolts -arrows C- and then remove ashtray -2- from center console.





- Lift damping washer -1- and noise insulation -2- upward and out.





- Unscrew noise insulation for gear shift housing -arrows-.
- Measure distance -a- between the two studs in shift mechanism

Note: Measure from center of stud to center of stud.





^ Specification: Dimension a = 85 mm

- If this is not the case, produce distance -a- as follows:
- Loosen bolt (arrow) for push rod.
^ Rear push rod (in shift mechanism) must move easily backward and forward on the slider
- Adjust dimension -a- by moving rear push rod (in shift mechanism).
- Tighten bolt for push rod -arrow- to 25 Nm.





- Loosen bolt for selector rod -arrow-.
^ The selector rod/shift mechanism connection must move freely

Aligning gear shift





- Center bottom of gear shift in ball socket.
^ Bottom of gear shift must be at same distance from all points of ball socket -arrows-.
^ Gear shift is vertical in the direction of travel.

- Secure gear shift in this position.





- Tighten bolt for selector rod -arrow- to 25 Nm.

Note: Take care not to alter position of gear shift when tightening the bolt.

- Install covers and gear shift knob.
