Drive Axles, Removing and Installing


Drive axles, removing and installing

Removing
- Pry hub cap off disc wheel; if necessary pull off using suction cup -3208-.





- Loosen collared bolt -arrow- only 90°, otherwise wheel bearing will be damaged.

WARNING!: Vehicle must be standing on its wheels when loosening and tightening collared bolt.

-Danger of accident-


- Remove wheel.
- Secure brake disc with wheel bolt.
- Unscrew collared bolt.
- Remove coil spring.
- Unscrew shield -2-.





- Unscrew drive axle from flange shaft/transmission -1-.
- Lift trapezoidal link by hand until drive axle can be pulled forward and out of flange shaft/transmission.





- Press exhaust pipe down slightly -arrow A- and push drive axle inward -arrow B- until it can be removed from hub wheel.
- Press exhaust pipe down slightly once again and guide drive axle outward above splash plate.





- Move drive axle downward to remove -arrow A-.

Note: Take care not to damage splash plate -arrow B- or body.

Installing
Pay particular attention to the following on installation:
Note: Replacing bolts and self-locking nuts.

Install in reverse order from removal.
- Installing coil spring.





Tightening torques:
Item 1:
Drive axle with inner link diameter 100 mm (M8): 40 Nm
Drive axle with inner link diameter 108 mm (M10): 70 Nm
Item 2, Shield: 25 Nm
- Tighten collared bolt to 190 Nm.
- Lower vehicle to stand on wheels.
- Turn collared bolt additional 180°.
