Outer CV joint, servicing
Disassembling outer constant velocity joint
- Clamp drive axle into vise.
Use protective jaws for vise.
- Open clamp.
- Slide back CV boot.
- Using a hammer and copper or brass drift, drive off inner ring of constant velocity joint.
- Remove joint.
Installing outer constant velocity joint
- Slide CV boot onto shaft.
CV boot and drive axle must be free of grease
- Insert new securing ring
Always replace circlip (engaging ring)
- Put 80 grams of drive axle grease into interior of joint piece.
- Thread old drive axle bolt into joint piece as shown
- Drive joint onto shaft using plastic hammer, until securing ring engages.
- Put 40 grams of drive axle grease into joint on lining side.
- Ventilate CV boot.
- Tighten tensioning clamp.
