Input shaft, removing and installing

Special tools and equipment
^ Puller T40050

Work sequence
- Drain ATF

Note: F111 with fresh ATF after repair

^ Remove transmission
^ Secure transmission in vertical position to assembly support.





^ Remove bolts (arrows).





^ Using a plastic hammer, carefully knock flange cover for input shaft so that it comes loose from gasket.
^ Apply special tool T40050 to transmission input shaft.
^ Check that special tool T40050 is positioned securely on input shaft.
^ Circlip must be pushed all the way down.
^ Pull input shaft with flange cover and forward clutch out of transmission housing on special tool T40050 (arrow).

CAUTION!:
^ Do not put down the input shaft on its guide bearing (arrow) at the bottom end.
^ The reverse gear clutch plates must not be removed from the transmission housing.





- Clean sealing surfaces on transmission housing and flange cover.
- Check that all dowel sleeves (arrows) for locating flange cover on transmission housing are securely installed.





- Check condition of oil seal (arrow) replace if necessary.
^ Installation position of oil seal: sealing lip toward flange cover
- Place paper gasket in position.





^ Align plates of reverse gear clutch using a straight-edge or similar.
^ Teeth must be set exactly in line.
^ Insert input shaft in transmission housing together with flange cover and forward clutch.





^ When doing this, rotate input shaft slightly in both directions (arrow) until all clutch plates have engaged. Also lift input shaft slightly at same time.
^ Just before input shaft is fully in position, rotate it counter-clockwise over last few millimeters so that it engages in teeth of helical intermediate gearing.





- Tighten bolts (arrows) in diagonal pattern and in stages.
Tightening torque: 23 Nm
- Fill transmission with at least 4.5 to 5 ltr. of fresh ATF.
- Install transmission.
- After transmission has been installed, check and top up ATF level from.
