Radio, Poor AM Reception

A4 Sedan, A8 L 2004

Condition

Poor AM reception (fewer channels received and lower signal volume) may be due to excessive solder flux on antenna amplifier spring contacts.

Production





Excessive solder flux as been eliminated beginning with the following VIN's.

Service

- Remove rear headliner trim:

A4 - see Repair Manual Group 70 - Roof end,
assembly overview

A8 L - see Repair Manual Group 70 - Roof
frame, removing and Installing.





- Disconnect Ground (GND) lead -1-.

- Release clasps -arrows- and lower amplifier module.

- Disconnect electrical connectors -2- and remove amplifier module -3-.





- Check spring contacts -arrows- for flux residue.

If flux residue is present:

- Replace amplifier module (Do Not attempt to clean spring contacts, or damage may result).





- Check spring contact pads -arrows- on rear window glass.

If flux residue is present:

- Apply a small amount of Stabilant-22A to a cotton swab and wipe clean the six contact pads.

- Install amplifier module.

Note:
Reconnect electrical connectors matching color-coding on amplifier module.

- Confirm AM reception has improved.

- Reinstall rear headliner trim.

If AM reception has not improved, additional diagnosis will be required.
