Shock absorber, removing and installing

Special tools and equipment





^ VAG 1752 Spring tensioner
^ VAG 1752/16 Spring holder set

Removing
- Remove wheel.
- Removing coil spring.





- Unscrew nut -1- and remove shock absorber bolt (illustration does not show splash plate).
- Unscrew nuts -2-.

Note: Wheel housing liner remains installed.

- Take out shock absorber.

Installing
Pay particular attention to the following on installation:
Note: Replace bolts and self-locking nuts.





- Tighten nuts -2- to 35 Nm.

Note: Pay attention to installation position of lower attachment point.

- Tighten lower shock absorber joint -1- initially to 20 Nm.
- Install coil spring.

Proceed as follows to tighten lower shock absorber joint:
- Lower vehicle onto wheels and loosen bolted joints.
- Bounce vehicle several times.
- Tighten nut -1- to 160 Nm plus additional 90° turn.
