Coil spring, removing and installing

Special tools and equipment





^ VAG 1752 Spring tensioner
^ VAG 1752/16 Spring holder set

Removing
- Remove wheel.





- Insert spring tensioner VAG 1752/1 with spring holder VAG 1752/16 in coil spring. If necessary, insert spring holder in individual windings and then screw in place with spring tensioner. Take care not to damage trapezoidal link while doing this.

Note: Four windings must be tensioned.

WARNING!: Pay attention to correct positioning of coil spring in spring holder VAG 1752/16 (danger of accident).

- Tighten spring tensioner as far as stop -arrow- and take out spring.

Installing
Pay particular attention to the following on installation:
Note:
^ When installing a new spring ensure that conical end faces downward.
^ Arrow B: Colored markings must be at bottom.





There is a lug in the lower spring support -1-.
- Insert this lug in hole of trapezium link -2-.
- Rotate end of coil spring such that it makes contact with stop of spring support -arrow A-.
- Insert upper spring support (not shown in illustration) in upper end of spring.
- Loosen spring tension while aligning spring support in hole in body at the same time.
