Power steering gear, overview
The illustration shows a vehicle with left-hand drive and applies to 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines.
The power steering gear is removed and installed together with the tie rods and steering damper.





1. Power steering gear with tie rods
2. Combi bolt, 70 Nm
3. Bolt, 30 Nm
4. Steering column
5. Seal
^ Check for cracks and abrasion
6. Combi bolt, 70 Nm
7. Combi bolt, 7 Nm
8. Bolt
9. Self-locking nut, 50 Nm
^ Always replace
10. Hub carrier
11. Banjo bolt, 47 Nm
12. Oil seal
^ Always replace
13. Return hose
14. Oil seal
^ Always replace
15. Bolt, 22 Nm

2. Screw in VAG 1907 as far as possible by hand

- Turn steering wheel slightly about its center position.
- Have second mechanic screw VAG 1907 into steering gear until engagement in centering hole is felt.
