Power Steering Pump: Testing and Inspection
Power steering pump delivery pressure, checking (Vehicles with 4-Cyl. engine)
Special tools required
^ VAG 1402
^ VAG 1402/3
^ 3094
- Pinch off suction and return lines with hose clamps -3094-.
- Unscrew pressure hose from power steering pump.
- Screw adapter VAG 1402/3 into pump in place of banjo bolt.
- Screw hose of pressure gauge VAG 1402- to adapter VAG 1402/3.
- Close shut-off valve of pressure gauge (lever on left).
- Remove hose clamps -3094-.
- Start engine and, if necessary, top off fluid level in reservoir.
- Read pressure on gauge at idle speed (measurement taken for no longer than 10 seconds).
Specification: 110 - 120 bar.
Note:
^ If readout does not match specification, replace steering pump.
^ Tightening torque of banjo bolt: 47 Nm
- Check hydraulic fluid level.
- Check steering system for leaks.
- Bleed steering system.
