Starter Motor: Service and Repair




Vehicles With 4-Cylinder Engine

CAUTION: Before beginning repairs on the electrical system:
- Obtain the anti-theft radio security code.
- Switch the ignition off.
- Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.
- On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-off the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery.
- After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows according to Owner's Manual.
- After reconnecting vehicle battery on vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-on the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module.


- Disconnect battery Ground strap with ignition switched off.

NOTE: Requirements after re-connecting voltage supply

Removing







- For vehicles with auxiliary heater, remove bolts for exhaust pipe -arrows-of stationary-/auxiliary heater at noise insulation.







- Loosen screws or quick releases -1- and -2- and remove front noise insulation.







- Disconnect cable from terminal B+ -2-.
- Unplug connector for terminal 50 -1-.
- Where installed, detach insulator from positive connection on starter.
- Remove clamp -4-.
- Unbolt starter bracket on cylinder block -3- and on starter.







- Remove bolts -1- and -2-.
- Remove starter from below.

Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

- Connect battery.
