Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80-, Checking
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- V.A.G 1526 A Multimeter.
- V.A.G 1527 B LED voltage tester.
- V.A.G 1594 A Connector test kit.
- V.A.G 1598/31 Text box.
- VAS 5051.
- VAS 5051/1 Adapter.
Testing for leaks
Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80- remains closed when deenergized.
- Disconnect hoses from Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80- but leave electrical connector connected.
- Connect auxiliary hose to one connection of Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80-.
- Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool and select engine electronics control module with "Address word" 01. Ignition must be switched on. Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks
- Initiate final control diagnosis and activate Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80-. Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) (Function 03)
- The valve should click..
...and should open and close (check by blowing into the auxiliary hose).
- End function "03 - Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)" by pressing <- button.
If valve does not open or close properly:
- Replace Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80-.
If the fuel injector does not click:
Checking internal resistance
- Disconnect connector on Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80-.
- Connect multimeter to fuel injector to measure resistance.
- Specified value: 22...30 Ohm
If specified value is not obtained:
- Replace Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80-.
If specified value is obtained:
Checking power supply
Test requirements:
- Fuse for Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80- OK.
- Fuel pump relay OK. Testing and Inspection
NOTE: The Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80- receives its power supply via the fuel pump relay.
- Disconnect connector on Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80-.
- Connect LED voltage tester V.A.G 1527 B as follows:
Connector terminal Measure to
1 Engine ground (GND)
- Operate starter briefly (engine may start).
- LED should light up.
If the LED does not light up:
- Check wiring from terminal -1- on connector via fuse to fuel pump relay for an open circuit.
- Repair open circuit, if necessary.
If the LED lights up:
Checking activation
- Connect LED voltage tester V.A.G 1527 B to terminals -1- (positive) and -2- of connector.
- Initiate final control diagnosis and activate Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80-. Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) (Function 03)
- LED should flash.
If the LED lamp does not flash or if it lights up continuously:
- Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to wiring harness for Engine Control Module (ECM); do not connect ECM.
- Check for open circuit and short to positive (B+) or ground (GND) in following wiring connection:
Connector terminal Test box VAG 1598/31 Socket
2 64
- Repair any open/short circuit as necessary.
If the wiring is OK:
- Replace Engine Control Module (ECM).
