Parking brake cables (AWD vehicles), removing and installing

Note: The parking brake cable adjusting elements are located in front of the rear lower transverse links.

Removing
- Remove center console extension.
- Unhook the exhaust at the rear.
- Detach the heat shield at the rear of the tank.
- Detach the rear tunnel heat shield (underneath the drive shaft).
- Detach the rear tunnel heat shield (above the drive shaft).





- Pull out retaining washer -1- and detach the parking brake cables at the brake caliper.

Note: Do not damage parking brake bellows when detaching and attaching.





- Unclip the brake cable -1- from the retainer -3-.





- Unclip the brake cable -3- from the retainer -2-.





- Unclip the brake cables -1- from the retainers -2- and -4-.
The parking brake lever has to be removed and the mechanism reset before it is possible to install new parking brake cables.

Installing





- Clip on the parking brake cable -1- as far as it will go.





- The clip loop on the retainer must be located between the two positioning rings-5-.

Note: The clip point on retainer -4 must always point toward the outside of the vehicle.

- Tightening torque for item 1: 15 Nm
- Hook in the cable at the exhaust mounting.
- Attach parking brake cables to underbody and tank and insert them into lever at brake caliper.

Note: Do not damage parking brake bellows when detaching and attaching.





- Hook the parking brake cable into the brake caliper and insert the retaining washer-1-.





- The cable positioning rings -1- must be located within the clip points on the retainer.
- Tightening torque for item -2-: 25 Nm
- Attach the heat shields.
- Adjusting parking brake, Refer to Parking Brake System, Adjustments.
- Install center console extension.
