- VAG 1788/10 RPM adjuster
Requirements
- Vehicle stationary
- Electrical consumers switched off (radiator fan must NOT run during test).
- Coolant Temperature less than 80 °C
Procedure
- Connect VAS5051 tester or VAG 1551 scan tool and select control module for engine electronics using "address word" 01.
Work step 1: Check DTC Memory
- Ignition switched on.
When indicated on display

Select function XX
- Press buttons "02" for the function "Check DTC Memory" and press Q button to confirm input.
X DTC recognized
Number of stored DTCs or "No DTC recognized" will be indicated on display. If a DTC is stored:
- Repair malfunction erase DTC memory. Road test vehicle and then check DTC memory as a control measure.
If no DTCs are stored:
- Press -> button.
Work step 2: Erase DTC Memory
- Ignition switched on.
When indicated on display

Select function XX
- Press buttons "05" for the function "Erase DTC Memory" and press Q button to confirm input.
NOTE: When DTC memory is erased, readiness code is reset and must therefore be re - generated.
When indicated on display
Rapid data transfer ->
DTC memory is erased
- Press -> button.
Work step 3: Adapt throttle valve control module to Engine Control Module (ECM)
- Ignition switched on.

If specified value "ADP OK" is obtained:
- Press - C - button.
Work step 3: Diagnostic of tank seal
- Start engine.
NOTE: If necessary, ECM must be re - selected with the "address word" 01 following engine start, and the function "initiate basic setting" selected with "04."
Test requirements
- Engine running at idle:
- Intake Air Temperature (IAT) less than 95 °C (display group 4, display field 4)
- Coolant Temperature less than 105 °C (Display group 4, display field 3)

- Check the specified value in display field 4:
NOTE: Test duration of tank seal lasts approx. 60 seconds.
Display Group 71:
NOTE:
- If indication in display field 4 jumps from "Test ON" to "Test OFF" during the test and display field 2 indicates "Aborted," repeat "Diagnostic of tank seal."
- During the repetition of the diagnostic, it can last up to approx. 60 seconds before indication in display field 4 switches from "Test OFF" to "Test ON."
If specified value "System OK" is obtained in display field 4:
- Press - C - button.
