CD Changer, Noise (Alternator Whine) Can Be Heard With Rear Defogger Switched ON

TT Coupe 2000

Condition

Alternator (whining) noise heard through speakers with CD changer playing and rear defogger switched ON.

^ Varies with engine RPM.

^ Noise is also volume dependent.

^ Most noticeable during lulls in music or when changer is changing tracks/CD's.

Service





- Install Part No: BN0 035 550A (adapter harness) to radio as follows:

- Remove Radio (see Radio, removing and installing in Group 91 Radio, Telephone, Navigation, Trip Computer of Repair Manual CD ROM).





- Remove antenna cable from radio.

- Insert adapter harness antenna lead into radio.

- Connect antenna lead to adapter harness.





- Remove black multi-wire connector from radio.

- Remove wire from cavity 8 on black multi-wire connector (use appropriate tool from VAS 1978 wiring harness repair kit).





- Insert wire terminal from adapter harness into cavity 8 of black multi-wire connector.

- Separate empty black two-pin hard-shell connector from adapter harness.

- Insert wire (from cavity 8) into cavity 1 of empty two pin connector and close connector shell.

- Reconnect two pin hard-shell (with wire in cavity 1) to adapter harness.

- Reconnect black multi-wire connector into radio.

- Slide anti-rattle foam over hard-shell connections (prevents rattles).

- Carefully reinstall radio (locate adapter harness to prevent rattling).

- Code radio if necessary, see Code Control Module (function 07) in Group 01 - Radio system, On Board Diagnostic (OBD).
