Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair
NOTE:
^ The multi-function Transmission Range (TR) switch, the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), and the transmission Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) can be checked while installed in the vehicle by the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) program, refer to Powertrain Management.
^ To disassemble and assemble the parking lock, the differential output gear must be removed, refer to Differential, Automatic Transaxle, Final Drive. Service and Repair
1. Parking lock gear
- Rounded side toward cover/pinion
2. Pin
- Removing, refer to Fig. 1, below
- Insert using drift
- Staking in place, refer to Fig. 2, below
3. Pawl
- Install with return spring
- Must be properly aligned with parking lock gear
4. Return spring
- Presses against transmission housing and is hooked into pawl
5. End cover
- Does not have to be removed to disassemble parking lock
- Driving in, refer to Fig. 5, below
6. Bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (84 inch lbs)
7. Bracket
- For multi-function Transmission Range (TR) switch
8. Multi-function Transmission Range (TR) switch
- Checked in vehicle by On Board Diagnostic (OBD) program, refer to Powertrain Management
9. O-ring
- Always replace
10. Transmission housing
11. Bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (84 inch lbs)
12. Transmission Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
- Checked in vehicle by On Board Diagnostic (OBD) program, refer to Powertrain Management
13. O-ring
- Always replace

- Checked in the vehicle using On Board Diagnostic (OBD), refer to Powertrain Management
16. Bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (84 inch lbs)
17. Lever/selector shaft
18. Bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (84 inch lbs)
19. Bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (84 inch lbs)
- Installing, refer to Fig. 4, below
20. Operating lever
- Install with selector shaft and engagement element
21. Bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (84 inch lbs)
- Installing, refer to Fig. 4, below
22. Detent spring
- Install screws as described in Fig. 4, below
23. O-ring
- Always replace
- Place in groove on gear selector shaft
- Installation position, refer to Fig. 3, below
24. Selector shaft
- Removing: first remove multi-function (TR) switch and detent spring Secured with locking washer Fig. 3, below
- Always install with operating lever
25. Locking washer
- Installing, refer to Fig. 3, below
26. Bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (84 inch lbs)
27. Manual valve operating lever
- Adjusting, refer to Valve Body. Service and Repair
28. Bolt
- Tighten to: 4 Nm (35 inch lbs)
29. Bushing
- Remove and install using drift

- Drive pin in with threaded hole facing upward.
- Secure pin by staking to transmission housing with punch (A in illustration).

- Sequence:
- Install screws (1 and 2 in illustration) (screw in to approx. 3 threads).
- Tighten screw (2 in illustration).
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (84 inch lbs)
- Tighten screw (1 in illustration).
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (84 inch lbs)
