DETERMINING SHIM THICKNESS





Required thickness for the last outer splined plate is determined from a calculated gap x based on measured variables a and b.
- Determine thickness of last outer splined plate by measuring gap x:

Gap x equals variable a minus variable b minus constant 3.6

Determining Variable a
- While pressing inner plate down (in direction of arrows), measure distance from pump flange/transmission housing to last inner splined plate with depth gauge (A in illustration).

Example:
Measurement a = 30.20 mm

Determining Variable b





- Place straightedge (B in illustration) on stator support and measure distance to pump flange gasket with depth gauge (A in illustration).

Example:
Measurement - Straightedge Height = Dimension b
40.10 mm - 19.50 mm = 20.60 mm

Calculating Gap x

Example:
Gap x = a - b - 3.6
30.20 mm - 20.60 mm - 3.60 mm = 6.00 mm

- Determine thickness of outer splined plate according to table below.

Replacement shims are available in a range of thicknesses from 1.00 to 2.75 mm

Check Measurement
Clutch play can only be measured after the ATF pump is installed.





- Mount dial indicator holder on transmission housing and position indicator tip on turbine shaft with 1 mm preload.
- Move turbine shaft up and down and read play from dial indicator gauge.
Specifications:
Minimum: 0.50 mm (0.020 inch)
Maximum: 1.20 mm (0.047 inch)
