Front Passenger Side Airbag Unit, Removing and Installing

Front Passenger Side Airbag Unit, Removing And Installing (Airbag III M.y. 1995):





1 - Airbag
- Install with front side up


WARNING!
When an airbag unit has been removed, always set it down (e.g. on a workbench) with trim side facing upward.



2 - Torx(R) bolt
- Always replace
- Make sure that screw/nut threads are clean
- 24 Nm (17 ft lb)
3 - Connector
- Must never be disconnected
- If loose, replace airbag unit
- Identification: 2-pin, red
4 - Harness connector
- Identification: orange
- Must not be clamped between instrument panel and airbag, tape to airbag if necessary before installing

Removing
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Remove glove compartment.
- Loosen Torx(R) screw -2- and remove airbag -1- from instrument panel.
- Disconnect harness connector -4- on tunnel and remove airbag -1-.
- Install in reverse order of removal.


WARNING!
- Connector -3- at the airbag unit must never be disconnected.
- If connector -3- is loose, replace the airbag unit.
- When an airbag unit has been removed, always is set it down (e.g. on a workbench), with the trim side facing upward.


NOTES:

- Airbag mounting plate must be installed to ensure normal functioning of passenger side airbag.
- When installing the airbag, always replace screw -2- with a new one. Make sure that threads on screws and nuts are clean.
- Make sure that cable to harness connector -4- is not clamped between the instrument panel and airbag. If necessary, tape the cable to the airbag prior to installation.
