Driver's side airbag unit, removing and installing

Removing


WARNING!
ALWAYS disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap, the airbag power supply harness connector has been deleted for my. 1996 - and the voltage supply line is now continuous.


CAUTION!
Before disconnecting the battery, determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.


- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Remove left and right airbag unit retaining screws (Torx(R) T30).





- Tilt airbag unit (horn bar) down.


CAUTION!
- The airbag connector retaining clip -A- is no longer required and has been discontinued.
- DO NOT automatically replace the airbag unit because of a missing retaining clip.
- DO NOT try to install a retaining clip on an airbag unit that did not have one originally.


- Disconnect airbag unit harness connector (arrow -B-).





- Remove airbag unit.

Installing
- Install in reverse order of removal, note the following:
- Start airbag unit mounting screws by hand.
- First tighten right mounting screw then left.
Tightening torque: 6 Nm (53 in. lb)
