Oil Pump: Service and Repair

- Ribbed belt removed
- Camshaft drive belt removed
- Vibration damper removed
- Disconnect battery.

CAUTION: Before disconnecting the battery, determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.

- Drain engine oil.
- Remove engine undertray.
- Remove oil dipstick.





- Unbolt dipstick tube and pull up and out of crankcase.
- Remove crankshaft center bolt.
- Remove toothed belt sprocket.
- Remove tensioner and, where applicable, idler roller.
- Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness connector.
- Remove coolant line to oil cooler (from oil pan).





- Disconnect engine support from oil pan.





- Disconnect cable bracket from oil pan.
- Disconnect engine ground cable at side member.
- Remove cooling air duct to generator.
- Remove oil filter.
- Detach oil cooler under oil filter and pull from banjo bolt.
Coolant lines remain connected.
- Remove both front bolts of engine support.

CAUTION: Be prepared. The crossmember will suddenly crop approximately 3/8 inch after removing the front bolts.

- Unbolt starter.
Wiring remains connected.
- Unbolt and remove oil pan lower section.





- Unbolt oil pan upper section and oil pick-up.
- Oil pan upper section has 4 countersunk screws
- Do not loosen coolant drain screw -A-

NOTE: If the upper oil pan section cannot be pulled downward, remove the right driveshaft cover and pull the lower starter bolt backward. The right driveshaft may have to be unbolted from the transmission.





- Unbolt and remove oil pump.
- Clean sealing surfaces of oil pump and oil pan.
When installing oil pump:





- Check alignment of oil pump and crankshaft drive plates.
- Slide oil pump onto crankshaft using sleeve 3202/1 of tool 3202 (to protect shaft sealing ring).
- Installation is in reverse order of removal.
Tightening torques
- Oil pump: 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
- Locking bolt: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
- Toothed belt tensioner: 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)
