Upper Hydraulic Cylinders, Removing and Installing

Upper hydraulic cylinders, removing and installing

- Open convertible top and pull up rear part of frame and front roof frame.




- Remove retaining clips -4- from balljoints at both ends of hydraulic cylinder -3-.
- Remove tie wraps -1- and guide cylinder out through convertible top linkage.

Note: A tie wrap is installed between the upper tie wrap and the two lower tie wraps. When installing, the hydraulic hoses must also be secured with this tie wrap.

- Close convertible top storage compartment lid and cover with paper or equivalent.
- Place hydraulic cylinder on storage compartment lid.
- Unscrew union nuts from hydraulic connections.
- Mark supply and return connections on cylinder and hydraulic hoses

CAUTION! Hydraulic fluid will damage paint; any spilled fluid must be removed immediately.

- Connect new cylinder to hydraulic hoses.
Union nut tightening torque: 28 Nm (21 ft lb).




- Position hydraulic hoses as shown and secure with tie wraps -1-.

CAUTION! Do not interchange supply and return hydraulic hoses.




- Bring new cylinder into position on convertible top as shown and press ball sockets onto ball joints on linkage -2-.
- Install retaining clips -4- on ball joints and secure.
- Secure corrugated hoses and hydraulic hoses with tie wraps -1-.
- Check operation of convertible top and hydraulic fluid level at hydraulic pump. Refer to "Hydraulic System, Bleeding and Filling" Service and Repair
