Upper hydraulic cylinder hoses, removing and installing

Note: Replacement hydraulic hoses (supply and return) are supplied only in pairs. When removing, start from the hydraulic pump.






- Remove storage compartment lock (Service and Repair) and luggage compartment trim, then remove hydraulic pump from bracket.
- Remove nut -1- together with plate -2-.
- Loosen nut -7- and lift hydraulic pump -8- out of rear bracket with crash cover -9- and plate -6-.
- Remove pump from front bracket toward rear and lift out.
Tightening torque for nuts -1- and -7-: 30 Nm (22 ft lb).






- Remove screws (arrows) (4x) and disconnect connecting plate from hydraulic pump.

Note: The fourth screw is located behind the hydraulic hoses and is not visible.






- Using small screwdriver, pry retaining rings -1- (of hydraulic hoses to be removed) over collars on connection fittings (supply and return) and remove retaining rings.
- Disconnect hydraulic hoses and plug them to prevent hydraulic fluid from leaking out.
- Cut open tie wraps securing hoses to hydraulic cylinder.
- Pull hydraulic hoses through as far as storage comi,artment.
- Remove lock assembly.
- Cut open all tie wraps on bracket.






- Pull hydraulic hoses out from around bracket and opening between pressure spring and stop (arrow).






- Remove retaining clips -4- from ball joints on both ends of hydraulic cylinder -3-.
- Remove tie wraps -1- and guide hydraulic cylinder out through convertible top linkage.
- Spread out plastic sheeting (or equivalent) in storage compartment to protect from leaked hydraulic fluid.
- Place cylinder in storage compartment.

Note: Mark the letters identifying the hydraulic hoses onto the hydraulic cylinder.

- Disconnect hydraulic hoses from hydraulic cylinder.
- Pull hydraulic hoses out of vehicle around bracket.

- Connect new hydraulic hoses to hydraulic cylinder.
Match up markings on hoses and cylinder
Tightening torque: 28 Nm (21 ft lb)






- Install hydraulic hose between pressure spring and stop (arrow). Route hose around bracket.






- Position hydraulic hoses and electrical wiring on hydraulic cylinder -2- as shown and secure with tie wraps -1-.

Note: Support ring -3- is intended to prevent kinking.






- Pull hydraulic hose with red marking through as far as tie wrap on bracket (arrow).
- Install tie wrap over red marking (arrow).
- Install hydraulic hoses with connection fittings through connecting plate.






- Install sleeve -1- of special tool 3335 over connection fitting, push retaining ring -2- over sleeve and push in using special tool -3- until properly seated.

CAUTION: Retaining rings -2- must be pushed all the way over the collar on connection fitting -1-.






- Install retaining rings, lubricate sealing rings -3- with hydraulic fluid and push on.
