Headliner: Service and Repair

Convertible top headliner, removing and installing

Removing




- Move handle to position shown, pry off caps (arrow) and remove screws.




- Remove screws (arrows) on front of front cover.




- Remove screws (arrow) on both sides of front cover -1-.
- Turn front cover 1/4-turn (90°).
- Remove handle. Refer to "Convertible Top Lock and Seals" Service and Repair
- Remove front cover.

Note: To ease removal of the convertible top headliner, it may be necessary to remove the convertible top locks.

If necessary:



- Pry off retaining spring and disconnect link rod from lock - 7-.
- Remove socket-head screws (arrows) and remove convertible top lock.




- Remove screws (arrows) from retaining strip -2- on both sides.




- Disconnect clamping strip (arrow) from 3 cross rails -1-.

Note: Only one cross rail is shown.




- Remove headliner retaining screws (arrow) from convertible top frame on both sides.




- Remove adhesive tape -1- and remove retaining screws (arrow) for tensioning straps from frame linkage on both sides.

Note: On later vehicles the adhesive tape is not installed and the tensioning strap is secured with a screw from the inside to the outside.




- Remove all screws from retaining strip -1-.
- Remove retaining strip.




- Remove headliner in direction of arrow.




- Remove Phillips-head screws from rear frame section on both sides and remove headliner.




- Remove screws (arrows) from rear cross rail and remove retaining strip with headliner.


Installing




- Secure headliner to rear cross rail with retaining strip and screws (arrows). Work from center of vehicle outward.
- Pierce through headliner material with screws at these points.




- Clip headliner onto -3- cross rails -1- with 3 clamping strips (arrow).

Note: Only one cross rail is shown.




- Secure headliner retaining strap to frame linkage with screw (arrow).




- Screw headliner securely to rear frame section as shown.
- Remove backing foil from two-sided adhesive strip on rear of headliner and glue headliner smoothly, without creases, to rear frame section.




- Secure retaining strip -1- with self-tapping screws.




- Secure tensioning straps -1- to convertible top frame linkage on both sides with screws (arrow).




- Secure headliner to front header rail with screws (arrows) and retaining strip -2-.
Work from center of vehicle outward.
- Install convertible top locks and front cover in reverse order of removal.
