About Trouble Codes
The tables lists possible malfunctions that can be recognized by ABS control module and displayed and/or printed on the VAG1551 or equivalent scan tool.
NOTE:
^ Malfunctions recognized and stored as diagnostic trouble codes are retained until DTC memory is erased.
^ Before replacing components, always check power supply voltage (B+) and Ground connections using the appropriate wiring diagram, and check all relevant wiring connections.
^ After replacing an ABS component:
- Check ABS system using VAG 1710,or equivalent, ABS tester. Electrical Testing
- Check and erase DTC memory.
- Road test; increase vehicle speed to over 30 kph (18 mph) at least once; ABS warning light must not come on again
^ If ABS warning light does not come on during the road test, the system is functioning properly.
^ Use VAG 1598 test box with VAG 1598/3 adapter, or equivalent break out box, to check the wiring harness and electrical connections to ABS control module (according to the wiring diagram).
CAUTION: Do not directly probe into wiring connectors, this may cause hidden or unrepealable damage.
^ "Sporadic" malfunctions are specifically identified as such and indicated by "/SP" on scan tool display (right side).
^ When "sporadic" malfunctions have been recognized, check for loose connections by moving the wiring harness and connectors leading to the relevant component.
^ "Static" malfunctions that cannot be recognized while the vehicle is stationary are also indicated by "/SP" on the scan tool display after the ignition has been switched off and on.
^ The 5-digit DTC appears only in the scan tool printout, and is not shown on the scan tool display.
^ Although the DTC table ("Corrective action" column) refers to various specific test steps using the VAG 1710 or equivalent ABS tester, testing should always include the complete troubleshooting program, following all steps in the specified sequence.
