Air Bag Systems

- The table lists possible airbag system malfunctions that can be recognized by the airbag control module -J234-.
- The airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) stays illuminated until the malfunction is repaired and DTC memory is checked and then erased.
- If a malfunction is intermittent or DTC memory was not erased after the repair, it will be recognized as a "sporadic" malfunction, "/SP" will appear in the VAG1551 scan tool display, and the airbag MIL will stay illuminated continuously.
- If a component is diagnosed with a malfunction, check the wiring to that component for open or short circuits using the wiring diagrams.
