Steering Gear: Service and Repair
1. Remove and disassemble steering gear assembly, referring to Fig. 7, during procedure.
2. Remove valve housing seal using tool 30-505 and 40-202 or equivalents, then press in new valve housing seal using tool 3013 or equivalent. Sealing lip faces steering pinion.
3. Remove steering rack seal using internal puller Kukko 21/3.
4. Clean end of steering rack thoroughly before pushing on new seal and dry with compressed air.
5. Coat steering rack and installation sleeve with hydraulic oil, then insert steering rack seal into housing and drive in to a stop.
6. Drive sleeve b through housing and out other end with mandrel of appropriate size.
7. Install steering rack from side opposite seal and push through installation sleeve a until flattened portion of rack has passed through seal, then remove installation sleeve a.
8. Thread on lock cap by hand to prevent rack from sliding out of housing and damaging seal.
