Front Passenger Side Airbag Unit, Removing and Installing
RemovingWARNING!
Airbags and related equipment (e.g. steering wheel) must only be disassembled, assembled and repaired by trained Audi Service Department personnel.
- Before working on any airbag, steering wheel or steering column components, always disconnect the battery.
- For m.y. 1994 and 1995 vehicles, disconnecting the battery alone will NOT prevent the accidental deployment of the airbag(s). Always disconnect the airbag power supply harness connector, and refer to the all airbag system Warnings and Cautions.
- Make sure that no person is in the vehicle when connecting the battery Ground (GND) strap.
CAUTION!
Before disconnecting the battery determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Disconnect airbag power supply harness connector.
- Remove glove compartment.
CAUTION!
Always replace bolt -A- with a new bolt after removing. Clean the threads in the nut before installing the new bolt
- Remove airbag Torx(R) mounting bolt -A-.
Always replace.
- Remove airbag unit from instrument panel and remove both airbag unit connector retaining straps.
Installing
- Install in reverse order of removal, note the following.
- Make sure left "airbag passenger 1" connector and right "airbag passenger 2" connector are properly connected to airbag unit.
- Tighten front passenger side airbag unit mounting bolt -A-.
Tightening torque: 24 Nm (18 ft lb)
