Ambient Temperature Sensor / Switch HVAC: Description and Operation

Sensor - Front of radiator

Sensor - In plenum chamber

Purpose and Operation
The control panel head measures outside ambient temperature via two identical sensors. One sensor is located in front of the radiator and the other on the evaporator in the plenum chamber.

During driving, the sensor in front of the radiator will provide more accurate temperature information. However, the sensor in the plenum will provide more accurate information while the car is stopped or driving slowly in traffic. The control panel head measures both sensors and uses the lowest value to calculate a correction factor for interior temperature regulation.

The sensors also provide the information for the outside temperature display.
