Power Steering Fluid: Service and Repair

Hydraulic fluid, replacing

Work sequence

CAUTION: When steering components and connecting lines are replaced, always fill steering system with hydraulic oil and bleed system. Do not reuse hydraulic oil which has been drained. Always clean filter when steering components are replaced and when changing hydraulic oil




CAUTION: Do not allow reservoir to be sucked dry

- fill hydraulic oil up to "MAX" mark
- take load off front axle
- turn steering wheel from full lock to opposite lock several times, engine not running

- top up hydraulic oil to "MAX" mark
- start engine and watch oil level
- keep adding hydraulic oil until fluid level remains constant at "MAX" mark

NOTE: No air bubbles should appear in reservoir when turning steering wheel
